Welcome to
Neighbourhood Watch in Halberton Halberton
joined the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme a number of years ago, and the scheme has provided a valued
service to Halberton village from that time. The aim of the Neighbourhood Watch is to
actively look after the interests and well-being of the community, with the help of the
Police. This just means being aware of what is going on in your immediate area.
Halberton village is divided up into
sixteen zones, covering about 10-20 households per zone, with each zone having a
coordinator. The overall Village Coordinator for Halberton is Brian Wooding,
whose contact details can be found below.
|
|
| The Police keep the zone coordinators
informed of any suspicious incidents or activities in the locality so that they can pass
on the warnings to their members. PC Michael Dodd has now
moved on and we have a new Neighbourhood Beat Officer
called PC Katie Rich (see her message to you all below). PCSO Mel Smith (see her
personal message below) is also available to offer advice on security and extra help for the vulnerable residents. |

Message
from our New Neighbourhood Beat Officer
I am Police Constable Katie Rich and
the new Neighbourhood Beat Officer for Halberton. I
have recently joined the Devon and Cornwall Police after
transferring from Hampshire Constabulary having spent the
last few years working in the city of Southampton. I
am a west Country girl at heart though, having been born
and brought up in North Devon, and at the age of 32 I
decided it was time to move back home. It is a
wonderful feeling to now be policing in an area which has
always meant so much to meant it's nice to know that I
will now be doing some good in my Home County. I am
already very aware how different working as a police
officer in a rural area is going to be but so far I am
enjoying the new challenges and also the beautiful
scenery!! Over the coming months I hope to become a
friendly and familiar face around Halberton and hope that
members of the community will approach me with any
questions or concerns they may have. |

Message
from Our Police Community Support Office
"Hi,
my name is Mel Smith and I am the Community Support
Officer for Halberton and surrounding villages. I
can be contacted whilst on duty at the number below.
I provide high visibility patrol, public reassurance and
communicate with many different agencies to promote a safe
community. I patrol on foot and in a car so I can
never give an exact time to when I will be in the area,
also the surprise element of patrol has its advantages
that nobody will be able to know when I will or won't be
there. I also have regular contact with the school,
regularly visit the Post Office and have even made mince
pies with the Youth Group. I am the first point of
contact with the police so PLEASE if there is anything I
can do to help contact me (see details below). |

Not all areas of Halberton
village are members of NHW, and new members are always welcome. If your area is not
represented in the scheme, and you wish to join, please contact Brian
Wooding. Those of you who live outside of the village, in
other parts of Halberton Parish, at Ash Thomas, Brithem Bottom and the other smaller
communities, may wish to either join the existing group or set up your own group, and
Brian Wooding is happy to provide advice to enable you to do so. |
