 Winner of the CALOR VILLAGE OF THE YEARŽ COMPETITION 2007 for Devon
   Halberton is a large rural Parish in the County of Devon between the towns of Tiverton and Cullompton, close 
to the city of Exeter.  Outside the village are several small communities and the hamlets of Ash Thomas and
Brithem Bottom.  We are also lucky to have The Grand Western Canal which meanders through the Parish 
and is a designated Country Park.

Tour of Britain Cycle Race 2008 comes to Halberton
On the 9th September between 11am and 11.30am the Tour of Britain Cyclists will be coming through Halberton High Street.  A fantastic opportunity for us all to be part of an International Competition.  The cyclists will be leaving Chard early that morning and going on through the centre of Tiverton.  The time trial section for that day will be taking place on the road through Blundells School, we have been trying to work out how we can spectate at both - if you can please let the rest of us know!!  You can find out more about the Tour of Britain at www.tourofbritain.co.uk, and as always if you get some good photos I would love to have them for the website. 
Another group of cyclists have been enjoying the Canal, a group of special needs young adults made local television and press in July using specially adapted bikes donated by Mencap.  The pleasure that can be seen on these youngsters faces is a joy to behold.  Tracey Seymour of the Puzzletree Centre in Okehampton must be congratulated for her 'Who dares wins' attitude in trialling these bikes, and to Jean, Jennifer and Shawn for being the guinea-pigs - our thanks to you all for getting this scheme off the ground.  Please contact Jo (details below) for more information about the use of these bikes.

NATIONAL CALOR VILLAGE OF THE YEARŽ COMPETITION 2007/2008 
Although we did not succeed in the overall competition it is still possible that we have won one of the different sections, however there is a long wait ahead as we will not know the answer until November when all the winners are announced
